Generating Firmware
When you create firmware to load onto the device with PowerVision 2.9, what is the difference between creating a configuration install package, creating an application install package, and creating a USB bootloader package?

I agree it is poorly named and quite confusing. The mouse-over 'help' says the same thing for all three options.
configuration install package = just your developed program.
application install package = your developed program + operating system for the hardware underneath. This is a very large file.I only use it on installations onto virgin displays or updating displays that have another program on them already.
Honestly not sure what USB bootloader package does.
*edit* I just created this feature request/bugfix report.

I know this has been some time ago, but I would agree with Justin on the first two. To add to Justin's reply, here is the response I received from our contact:
The Configuration Install Package includes only the configuration and you would use this during development since it is a smaller file and loads quicker.
The Application Install Package includes the operating system in the file and is needed any time you move from one version to another. Always use this when sending a file out into the field since you wont know what version is installed.
The Bootloader Install Package is the part of the program that loads new files. This is only used when you have a really old display you are updating to the newest software. You will get a message that says incompatible bootloader, please update if there is a problem.
