PowerVision 8.9 is a major release intended to introduce new functionality and architecture improvements to support further iterations of the platform. Most of the changes are related to the Powervision IDE, the embedded code remains relatively unchanged with the exception of new applications. The following is an overview of the changes in the PowerVision 8.9 release.
Major Changes
- Software Upgrade to .NET 8 – With this latest release, we’ve migrated to .NET 8, which brings a host of improvements and enhancements, and we’ve seamlessly integrated .NET 8, so there’s no need for manual installations of the .NET runtime.
- Streamlined Spark Downloads – The Spark installation process has been simplified, and the PowerVision Display Firmware is now downloaded on-demand in PowerVision Studio.
- Enhanced Offline Experience – Working with PowerVision Studio offline was disabled in PowerVision 7.0. This has been re-enabled and enhanced in 8.9 ensuring that you can work seamlessly even when Internet access isn’t an option.
Minor Changes
- Improved Speed of Application Firmware Generation – Generating application firmware from PowerVision Studio now takes less time and the process can more reliably be canceled.
- Added a Third Amp Output to Media in PowerVision – The Media Action, “OutputOn”, now has three output options, whereas previous versions only listed two.
- Support USB Load Shedding for P70 Display – Fail-safe that shuts down the USB circuitry when temperatures reach a higher threshold.
- Support Short Circuit Protection for P70 Display – Fail-safe that turns off the GPS Antenna in the event of a short circuit.
- Integrated MRC Technology in the HD Radio Tuner– Skyworks’ MRC technology is a channel diversity algorithm that provides superior sound quality and enhances signal coverage and reception by combining signals from two antennas to yield maximal performance. Available on the Powerview U120 and U150 displays.
New Features
- High Current PDM Application – A new Application has been added to PowerVision Studio to configure the High Current Power Distribution Module. Setup is very similar to the IX3212
- Street Maps Application - A new GPS mapping application has been added that integrates with our GPS map data platform to display street maps.
New Hardware Support
- High Current PDM
- U35 Round Color Display
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Calculation Event Overrun at Power-up introduced in version 7.x. This was due to starting the CCM app before the NVmgr app fully loaded the non-volatile memory tables, as a result timer variables would have a value of 0 at startup which caused events to fire repeatedly until the memory tables were fully loaded.
- Fixed Large Image Partially Off-Screen Not Displaying.
- Fixed Angel Script compiler issue not recognizing user name folders with special characters in the name.
- Fixed Failure to Display Analog Camera Feed with Multiple Camera Streams.
- Fixed Rotary Gauge tick mark text when different language is selected.
- Fixed Modbus TCP/IP retry hang-up on missed messages.
- Fixed simulation issue with curved bar gauges.
